About Dr. Kathryn Leugers

kathrynI am a licensed psychologist who has expertise in providing individual and family therapy, parental consultation, academic process counseling, and career development services. I also provide seminars on motivation, learning strategies, emotional intelligence, and relationship skills for tweens, teens, and adults in a variety of settings.

In my 15 years of professional psychological experience, I have developed a specialty in helping my child, adolescent, and adult clients identify their values and personal motivators and facilitate their positive identity, social, emotional, academic, and career development through wellness-focused psychotherapy and skills coaching.

My goal is to help my clients (whether 6, 16, or 60) to determine what they most want in their lives and assist them in building the emotional strength, insight, and skills needed to achieve those goals. It takes courage and motivation to start a change process and finding the right person to help is essential. I see the therapist-client relationship as a foundation for that growth and an active part of the growth process. I look at each client as a whole person – seeing, owning, and addressing our strengths and weaknesses, dreams and fears is a part of being whole – healthy – and well. To assist us in our work, I often encourage my clients to complete a few assessment instruments during the therapy or coaching process. My treatment philosophy is to approach each individual and family based on their unique goals and needs while considering the current research on efficacious treatments and integrating psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, acceptance and commitment, and family systems perspectives. I strongly value including family members in the therapy process as appropriate and collaborating with other professionals to facilitate our shared client’s development and success.

I completed my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees at Widener University in Philadelphia, PA in 2007. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Ohio Psychological Association, and the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. I have professional psychological experience working in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient therapy centers, college counseling centers, college academic support services, and private practice settings and have been licensed as a psychologist in Ohio since 2008. I established my own practice in 2013 after working for a family-owned, group practice in Columbus, OH for 6 years.
